The evaluation of lecturer’s improvement programs through academic culture and services

This study evaluated the program to improve postgraduate lecturers’ performance at Muhammadiyah University Prof. Dr. Hamka (UHAMKA). This study used a mixed-method sequential explanatory design. The primary data were collected using questionnaires for lecturers, study program coordinators, and students. The primary data were presented by observations and interviews with the Director of UHAMKA Postgraduate. The data analysis was carried out using differential statistics to support the interview and documentation results. The most prominent result was the Institute’s concern for the lecturer problem, with the respondents’ answers showing strong concern (13%), concern (45.7%), and immediate concern (41.3%). The Institute’s concern for lecturer problems was not high. Therefore, it needs to be increased. This study implied the need to conduct a follow-up program by motivating lecturers without functional positions to be immediately concerned and collect the required documents.

Online e-cigarette promotion in Indonesia

Background: The decline in the global prevalence of cigarette smoking has prompted tobacco companies to expand their business by producing and marketing new nicotine-based products in various countries, including Indonesia. The study aims to assess e-cigarette promotional frequency and content on social media in Indonesia.
Methods: Monitoring was conducted on Instagram in October 2021. A total of 45 Instagram influencer accounts were monitored to assess the frequency of posting and interactions from 4 to 20 October for InstaStories and from 4 to 31 October for Instagram Feeds. Content analysis was carried out on 310 posts collected from 10 randomly selected accounts from 1 to 31 October (one post per account per day) to evaluate the form, type and characteristics of the promotions.
Results: There were a total of 2?897?327 followers across the 45 Instagram accounts. On average, the 45 accounts posted about 185 stories and 43 feed posts per day. Of the 310 feed posts analysed from 10 randomly selected accounts, 64% featured images of women; 50% highlighted or displayed the product; and 32% showed enjoyment of the product flavours.
Conclusions: The tobacco industry has successfully taken advantage of the e-cigarette promotion regulatory void. The Indonesian government needs to ban the promotion of these products, including those on online platforms.

This study aims to determine the effect of each type of personality (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, negative emotional/neuroticism and openness to experience) on death anxiety. The hypothesis proposed in this study is that there is an influence between each type of personality (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, negative emotional/neuroticism and openness to experience) on death anxiety. The respondents in this study were 125 male and female Covid-19 volunteers. The data collection method uses the Big Five Inventory-2 Short (BFI-2S) scale by Soto & John (2017) and the Death anxiety Scale by Templer (1970) via google form which is analyzed using a multiple linear regression process using IBM SPSS version 25. The results showed that personality extraversion type R² change = 0.017 with P = 0.149, personality type agreeableness R² change = 0.147 with P = 0.000, personality conscientiousness type R² change = 0.063 with P = 0.002, personality type negative emotional/neuroticism R² change = 0.000 with P = 0.784 and the type of personality openness to experience/open mindedness R² change = 0.000 with P = 0.968. That is, the type of personality agreeableness and conscientiousness have a significant effect on death anxiety, while the type of personality extraversion, negative emotional/neuroticism and openness to experience/open mindedness have no significant effect on death anxiety. The implication of this study is that personality can affect the occurrence of death anxiety in a person, especially the type of personality agreeableness and conscientiousness.

PENINGKATAN KETERAMPILAN MENULIS DESKRIPSI MELALUI PENDEKATAN KONTEKSTUAL PADA MATA PELAJARAN BAHASA INDONESIA KELAS IV SDN CIPETE SELATAN 03 PAGI

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh data empirik tentang pendekatan kontekstual dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis deskripsi siswa kelas IV SDN Cipete Selatan 03 Pagi pada pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia.
Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SDN Cipete Selatan 03 Pagi dengan subjek penelitian siswa kelas IV yang berjumlah 36 siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan dengan menggunakan model Kemmis dan Mc. Taggart, dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri dari tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, pengamatan, dan rifleksi tindakan. Proses pengumpulan data melalui test menulis deksripsi pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia, Pendekatan Kontekstual, dan non test berupa hasil observasi pelaksanaan metode pembelajaran melalui pendekatan kontekstual dengan menggunakan lembar pengamatan aktivitas guru dan siswa serta hasil dokumentasi.
Hasil penelitian menunjukan adanya peningkatan keterampilan menulis deskripsi pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia dengan menggunakan pendekatan kontekstual. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai keterampilan menulis deskripsi sebelum dilakukan penelitian yaitu tingkat ketuntasan siswa hanya 39%. Pada siklus I tingkat ketuntasan mulai meningkat sebesar 51%, dilanjutkan pada siklus II mencapai 88% siswa yang tuntas dengan nilai rata-rata kelas 83.
Implikasi dari penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa penggunakan pendekatan kontekstual menekankan pada pembelajaran yang mampu mengaitkan materi dengan kehidupan sehari-hari siswa sehingga pembelajaran lebih bermakna. Pembelajaran ini berpusat pada siswa, dengan menggunakan pendekatan ini dapat menciptaka suasana lingkungan kelas yang kondusif, aktif, kreatif dan menyenangkan.
